Farrier work is mentally stimulating, though physically hard. You should have a strong desire to be financially successful and the mental capacity to do so.

Educational Requirements:
A prospective student should be able to read and comprehend at a high-school level and possess basic math computation skills. These skills are necessary to complete the reading materials and operate as a farrier. This does not exclude those with learning disabilities. If you have a specific issue with reading, please contact WFS before applying.

Physical Requirements:
Farriers should be able bodied (no underlying physical handicaps, history of back or knee trouble, etc.) or have the drive and ambition to overcome any handicaps that may hinder their ability to perform the required tasks.

Age Limitations:
Any student who is not yet 18 years of age, will be allowed to enroll after a personal interview with the instructor and permission of his/her legal guardian. There is no maximum age limit for attending WFS.

Previous Experience:
Previous experience is not required, although, any experience with horses is a tremendous asset, as is any kind of shoeing experience. The more knowledge you have about this course of study, the higher your probability of success.
