Greg Gray, AFA CJF
Dean of Farrier Education Department
CEO Wolverine Farrier School

Gregory Gray, CJF believes that the cornerstone of a successful farrier business is education. Wolverine Farrier School strives to provide a solid foundation concerning the basics needed by the entry-level farrier in forging techniques, shoe making, tool fabrication, equine anatomy, physiology, movement principles, hoof care and management. What sets WFS apart is the teaching philosophy Greg adheres to regarding the student.

"In the years that I have been instructing future farriers, I have come to the realization that each and every student has the ability to succeed in this industry. My first goal is to teach my students a basic understanding of all aspects of the course of study. It is critical to understand that while some students may absorb knowledge best in a group setting, others need further one on one instruction. I do my best to find the most appropriate angle to teach each individual student."

Greg's character is revealed in his daily classroom and professional interactions. Whether it is a student or a practicing farrier who dropped by WFS for the day, Greg makes a point to spend the time needed to answer their questions. He learned how important this contact is when he apprenticed under former head instructor of WFS, Robert Reaume,CJF and Horseshoers Hall of Fame Inductee.

"Mr. Reaume taught me more than just the basics: good business skills and refining my basic farrier techniques. He also taught me the value of teaching others about our industry. When I became a teachers assistant under Mr. Reaume, I understood how much you could learn by teaching others your profession."

Greg takes maintaining an educational environment one step further; his core professional value of striving for excellence is reflected with his belief in continuing education.

Greg Gray, CJF.

"I have been a successful professional farrier for over ten years, my strong desire and willingness to learn plays a large part in this fact. Through education I continually try to better myself in this business. I do not proclaim to know it all, only that I am learning more everyday. Frequent continuing education is the key. I attend farrier conventions as well as various contests and clinics. I have had the opportunity to work with some of the finest farriers in the industry, which has served to be a very valuable source of information. Without their knowledge I would not be where I am today or be able to offer my students the opportunities found at Wolverine Farrier School."

In closing, Wolverine Farrier School focuses on being a part of the profession's information network, the message of "Get Involved and Stay Informed" is clear to students.

"As an active member of the Michigan Horseshoers Association and as a Certified Journeyman Farrier with the American Farriers Association, I realize that a tremendous growth of information sharing is taking place right now, not like "the old days" of keeping your best techniques to yourself. It's a very exciting time to be a professional farrier and Wolverine Farrier School is striving to be on cutting edge of equine science."
